John Rhys-Davies: Ignorant Actor

Friday January 30, 2004
John Rhys-Davies has been making waves recently with his comments about Islam and how much of a threat it poses to "Western Civilization." He certainly has a point when it comes to Muslim extremists, and it is also arguable that there are facets of Islam that may not be entirely compatible with the ways in which the West does things. Nevertheless, some of his arguments have been based upon real errors.

Actually, yes, we do see Buddhists attacking Christian churches - in Sri Lanka. We also see Hindus attacking Christians in India. Have Christians every attacked others who disagree? Absolutely. In America we've had Christians murder doctors who perform abortion, for example. If John Rhys-Davies doesn't see the violence that occurs on behalf of other religions, it can only be because he hasn't bothered to look or, having looked, has decided to simply ignore the facts.
