Ex-Gay Billboard Turned Down

Groups that promise they can "cure" homosexuality seem to be taking a more aggressive approach to spread their message in society - but not everyone is interested in listening. One group tried to rent a billboard in Albany, New York, but the company that owns it refused because of the proposed content.

World Net Daily reports:

"It never ceases to amaze me how biased and unfair the media really is," [Stephen Bennett] said. "Sharing my story has given thousands of people hope – homosexual men and women who are unhappy with their same-sex attractions." A recording artist and national speaker, Bennett's Huntington, Conn.-based group, Stephen Bennett Ministries, says it offers help to people who want to "come out" of the homosexual lifestyle.
"These billboard companies have no problem taking advertising for such offensive material as liquor ads and controversial plays such as The Vagina Monologues," he said. "Yet a Christian billboard they refuse? This is blatant discrimination and bias at its best." He said SBM's attorneys will be "looking over their options."

Options? I'd be surprised if any competent lawyer were able to suggest any options other than finding another billboard company and see if they are willing to carry the message. Private companies like this are free to discriminate based upon content - newspapers aren't required to carry any ad that comes along and the same goes with other types of media as well. CBS has refused to carry an advertisement from Moveon.org and I don't see World Net Daily carrying any stories critical of that decision - I wonder why? Perhaps because World Net Daily discriminates based upon content as well.
