Medical Students Want Anti-Evolution Lectures
Aftenposten reports on John David Johannessen and the leader of the Christian Medical Students Circle at the University of Oslo:
"The theory of evolution doesn't stand up and does not present enough convincing facts. It is one theory among many, but in education it is discussed as if it is accepted by everyone," Johannessen said. ... "Of course one has to know the theory of evolution, it is after all part of the curriculum. But certain lecturers demand that one believe it as well. Then it becomes a question of faith and not subject," Johannessen said.
The Christian students want the curriculum changed to state that there is no fossil evidence for transitional forms, that evolutionary theory assumes too many extraordinary events occurring over too short a period of time, and that evolutionary theory requires that mutations be immediately beneficial when, in fact, most are immediately detrimental.
Evidently, the faculty at the University of Oslo - not to mention the public schools prior to university - need to do a much better job at explaining biology and evolution to Norwegian students. For them to come up with such nonsense makes it clear the their teachers have failed them terribly - not only when it comes to teaching about evolution, but also about science generally. At this rate, Norwegians' ignorance of science will rival that of Americans in a few years.
