Australia's Herald-Sun reports on a couple who withheld epilepsy medication from their infant, evidently causing her to die while they sought alternatives from a psychic, a naturopath and an iridologist:
Isabella Denley died aged 13 months on October 19 last year after suffering a seizure, although the exact cause of death has not been established. A statement by her mother claims an iridologist had looked into the girl's eyes 11 days before her death and declared she did not have epilepsy.
Royal Children's Hospital pediatric neurologist Mark Mackay said he reported the couple to the Department of Human Services. "They told me they wanted to stop the medication and I told them that would be against my advice because Isabella was suffering life-threatening epilepsy," he said.
According to The Age, a psychic told the parents that their daughter was "reliving a past life trauma." What a shame that this little girl had to die because of the carapace of ignorance and gullibility that her parents had built up around them. There is so much death and suffering in the world, why do we need more to suffer and die because of such obvious stupidity?
Thanks to "Gullibility" for the links, as well as the nice title idea.

causing ‘him’ to die???? first of all, the child was female. and there is no doubt that the slant the writer has put on this is WRONG!!!! so get your facts straight. the family went through so much and here is a shallow journalist putting his meaningless, and unresearched oppinions out there.
This may be cruel, but i only hope you go through the exact same thing, maybe you’ll think twice before opening your big mouth full of ****.
the baby who dies was female..not male. couldnt even get that right!
Well, there’s a well-reasoned response.
1. If you notice, the rest of the piece refers to the child as a female. What you are so upset about is a simple typo.
2. First of all? That implies you found multiple errors, but you point out no other errors. Apparently you couldn’t find any, which might explain why you are so focused on the one you found.
Well, if that’s the case then you should be able to demonstrate what the errors are.
Yes, it is cruel and that reveals quite a lot about your character – you don’t have a problem with others suffering if they happen to say things you dislike. Fortunately the “exact same thing” won’t ever happen to me because I have enough sense not to see people like iridoloigsts and naturopaths for serious illnesses.
Austin,
I guess things tend to make less sense when a person’s coming from a place of anger.
That was my niece you wrote about.
I took it personally- something human beings tend to do.
I understand you’re just doing your job- I just wish it hadn’t involved writing a blog about someone I loved.
I’m not angry anymore, just sad every now and then.
Happy writing
