The debate over the status of the Danish Lutheran priest who doubts or disbelieves in the existence of God isn't quite over yet. In June, Thorkild Grosboel, pastor of Taarbaek, was suspended, despite parishioner demands that he be returned. In July, Bishop Lise-Lotte Rebel restored him to his post. Now, other priests are complaining.

The Copenhagen Post explains:

A joint statement issued by 158 priests and theologians denounced the decision by Elsinore's bishop to lift a seven-week suspension order on a priest who confessed he did not believe in God. ... The 158 priests said they found Grosboell's statements incompatible with his role as priest in the Lutheran church and damaging to the church's credibility. They urged the bishop to take action and described the lifting of the suspension as "unacceptable."

Poor Grosboel just can't catch a break. No matter what he does, someone is mad at him - except his parishioners, who all seem to like him a great deal.
