Christian Law Firm Seeks to Void Gay Rights Laws

A number of states and communities around the nation have passed laws outlawing employment discrimination based upon sexual orientation, usually in the context of government jobs. This has outraged evangelical Christians - not content to merely hate homosexuality, they want to make sure that the government, right along with private employers, remain able to discriminate against gays.

To that end, a number of groups and individuals have secured the services of Alliance Defense Fund, a law practice based in Scottsdale, Arizona, to sue to eliminate such antidiscrimination laws:

[T]he Alliance Defense Fund, a law practice based in Scottsdale that bills itself as a "Christian legal organization that works to protect and defend traditional family values, religious freedom, and the sanctity of life." ..."The fact that these people are trying to repeal the law ... is a demonstration of the necessity of the law," said Liz Bradbury, co-chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Gay and Lesbian Alliance.

One wonders why they feel such a strong need to discriminate. Is a person's private sexual behavior so vital that it must become an issue in hiring and firing?
