The Erotic Word: Sexuality, Spirituality, and the Bible Recently Received: The Erotic Word: Sexuality, Spirituality, and the Bible, by David McLain Carr.

Traditional perceptions of the Bible - both on the part of believers and non-believers - is that it serves to repress natural human sexuality and eroticism in favor of a stricter sexual code of morality and conduct. Author David Carr argues, however, that the opposite should be true. According to Carr, erotic passion and sexuality are woven throughout the Bible alongside of self-denial and renunciation; any emphasis on one theme which negates or denies the other not only fails to be true to the text but also to the nature of human experience as well.
