Ad Hominem Arguments: This fallacy is not only common, but also commonly misunderstood. There are five different types of ad hominem arguments, whereby someone attempts to distract from the main issue by somehow attacking the other person. All ad hominem fallacies involve attacking a person rather than their argument, but not all look alike and not all look like personal attacks. Moreover, not all personal attacks are, technically, ad hominem fallacies. So how can you tell which is which?
