A BBC documentary profiling the life and work of Saint Paul included the suggestion that Paul's conversion experience on the road to Damascus could conceivably have been the result of an epileptic fit. This wasn't the first time that such a suggestion has been made and it stands in a long line of attempts by religious believers to offer naturalistic explanations of biblical miracles - perhaps as part of some effort to portray their faith as being scientific and respectable? This suggestion, however, has outraged many Christians who feel that it denigrates Paul's experience.
