Sentenced to Church

According to the Charleston Post and Courier, Family Court Judge Charlie Segars-Andrews has been sending some juvenile offenders at the Charleston County Juvenile Drug Court to church. One sentence is a weekly Christian Bible study named Alpha at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, where she just happens to be a member. The idea evidently came from her pastor, the Reverend Alan Kilpatrick, and he is placed in charge of monitoring the boys.

Segars-Andrews doesn't have a problem with the government spending tax dollars on the religious training and indoctrination of the youth - after all, federal budget cuts in other are preventing secular agencies from fulfilling the same role. Convenient, no?
