Is This Moral?

Lomandra asks: Animal Liberation has claimed that it put pork in the feedlots of 70,000 sheep that were to be sold in the Middle East, on the basis that this would taint them in terms of Halal law and thus the sheep could not be sold as planned. Of course, they might have acted illegally and might be open to a civil suit, but did they act morally in your opinion?

Presumably the pork didn't harm the sheep, so it would be difficult to argue immorality there. The group revealed its actions in advance, so they didn't allow Muslims to eat pork (even if second-hand) without knowing it; had they done so, that would have been arguably immoral. In the end, the did something that prevented the owners of the sheep from selling to planned purchasers - is that very immoral? The sheep can probably be sold elsewhere, so they don't appear to be entirely useless now. Perhaps it was a little immoral to limit the sellers' options... what do you think? Read More...
